Workshop outputs and reports

Outputs of the Towards 2060 Process

Over the past few months, through to July 2010, the people of Manukau have been engaged in conversations about designing and building a sustainable future for their communities and city.

Issues raised through these conversations and workshops have been gathered into reports, which will then be presented back to the community and to key decision-makers for their further consideration.

These reports can form a basis for development of community action plans, rather than contain all of the sustainability action planning within them. The Towards 2060 process builds community capacity to engage with the new Auckland Council and other organisations on sustainability issues.

This diagram (figure 1) shows how Towards 2060 relates to the Auckland Sustainability Framework and regional strategies and plans.

Towards 2060:

  • builds on the Tomorrow’s Manukau partnership model
  • demonstrates best practice community engagement in long-term planning, enabling local communities to consider how global to local changes in the next 50 years will shape their local environments, economies and societies.
  • can inform future Local Board planning, and help build the communities’ capacity for engagement with the future Auckland Council.
