Notes
- In Manukau, population growth is forecast to continue.
- It is less certain whether economic growth will keep up.
- Manukau City Council’s Strategic Spatial Plan has been underpinned by the Auckland Regional ‘economic scenarios’, and based on forecasts of population growth to the year 2060. These scenarios assume a growth vision for the City based on continued and expanding economic growth.
- The economic futures that Auckland Region (including Manukau) have used for planning purposes assume that economic growth will continue, and that current businesses will expand. All the scenarios considered would lead to increasing greenhouse gas emissions.
- This planning did not consider use of new or alternative technologies to address likely resource depletion or fuel unavailability, or other forces for change; there is therefore potential for a shrinking global economy. This has not been factored strongly in regional planning thus far.
Q: How likely is continued economic growth?
Q: What work will people do in the future, and where will they be doing it?
