Rural Centres – Focus of Rural Settlement

Rural Centres – Focus of Rural Settlement

Notes

Focusing growth on a limited number of centres maximises public sector investment, and ensures the future vitality and viability of these centres.

Manukau City Council’s position is to focus future rural growth on the existing settlements, with a preference for Clevedon, Beachlands-Maraetae and Brookby.

Some challenges in the future will be to manage the urban – rural interface, and to plan for the potential impact of sea-level rises in coastal and tidal locations.

Rural Manukau is part of the greater rural hinterland, which includes rural Papakura and Franklin. The economic future of this land will be influenced by national and global factors including climate change.  Protection of rural land will keep future options open; for example for food / agricultural production.
