• The new challenge is improving “total factor productivity”: using all resources (Land, Labour, Natural Resources and Capital Investment) more efficiently: making the most of what’s available to create the best value.
• Education and up-skilling is the key to improving Labour productivity. More than 50% of the Manukau workforce will be Pacific and Māori: high educational achievement will be essential for these communities.
• Capital investment in regional infrastructure will require making the right strategic decisions for long-term value: it’s hard, and wasteful, if we need to go back and do it again.
• Our brains are the source  of long-term competitive advantage: investing in research, development, innovation – and then putting knowledge to work effectively.
• Planning needs to provide for demographic changes, & equity across the city
